About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Accounts & Finance Manager to join a long-established South West construction business with a strong local reputation for quality workmanship and professional project delivery.

This is a hands-on finance role suited to someone who is confident managing the day-to-day accounts function within a busy SME environment and who understands the specific financial requirements of the construction industry.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for payroll, CIS, VAT, invoicing, reconciliations and management reporting, while supporting the wider business with accurate financial information and clear commercial insight.

Requirements:

• Manage day-to-day company accounts and project financial records.
• Complete CIS submissions and subcontractor verification.
• Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time.
• Prepare VAT returns and manage VAT reverse charge requirements.
• Raise sales invoices and maintain accurate customer accounts.
• Track retentions and outstanding payments.
• Monitor aged debt and follow up overdue accounts.
• Complete bank and account reconciliations.
• Support the preparation of year-end accounts.
• Produce budgets and financial forecasts.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Maintain accurate and compliant financial records.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, clients and external accountants where required.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with HMRC and construction industry requirements.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience within an Accounts Manager, Finance Manager or similar role.
• Strong construction industry finance experience.
• Good understanding of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
• Confident managing VAT reverse charge requirements.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processes and HMRC compliance.
• Experience preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Experience using Sage, Xero or similar accounting software.
• Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Confident and professional communication skills.
• Proactive, organised and comfortable taking ownership of the finance function.
