28 Aug Events & Operations Manager
Division – Construction (White Collar)
Pay: £28,000 – £32,000 DOE
Job Title: Events & Operations Manager
Location: Newton Abbot
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role:
We are recruiting for a proactive, organised and commercially minded Events & Operations Manager to join a well-established sports and events venue based in Newton Abbot.
This is a varied, hands-on role with responsibility for the planning, organisation and delivery of events and match day operations across the venue.
You will take ownership of a busy calendar of events including sporting fixtures, festivals, themed nights, private functions, weddings and other events, while also managing staff, suppliers, costs and event promotion.
This is not a traditional Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 position. Some of the venue’s busiest periods naturally fall during evenings and weekends, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable working flexibly around the events calendar.
The role is based on an average 40-hour working week, with additional hours worked during busy events or weekends taken back through time off in lieu during quieter periods.
You will not be expected to work every weekend, but will need to be available for key fixtures and events when required.
Main Responsibilities:
- Plan, organise and deliver a varied calendar of events.
- Manage sporting fixtures, festivals, themed nights, private functions, weddings and other events.
- Take ownership of events from initial planning through to delivery.
- Coordinate with caterers, suppliers, contractors and external event organisers.
- Ensure events are professionally organised and provide an excellent guest experience.
- Develop new event ideas that increase attendance, engagement and revenue.
- Promote events and help maximise bookings and attendance.
- Lead the operational delivery of match days and sporting fixtures.
- Ensure match days are properly planned, organised and staffed.
- Coordinate staffing, facilities, suppliers and operational requirements.
- Recruit, organise and manage casual and part-time event staff.
- Prepare and manage staff rotas.
- Lead and motivate staff while maintaining high standards.
- Monitor staffing and operational costs.
- Support the delivery of profitable events.
- Contribute to pricing and event planning decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins and control unnecessary expenditure.
- Look for opportunities to generate additional income from the venue and its facilities.
- Engage with members, supporters and the wider local community.
- Support the wider day-to-day running of the venue.
- Resolve operational issues quickly and practically.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Previous experience within events, hospitality, venue management or operational management would be highly beneficial.
The successful candidate will:
- Be highly organised with strong planning skills.
- Be comfortable managing several priorities at once.
- Be confident managing and motivating staff.
- Have strong commercial awareness and an understanding of costs.
- Be comfortable making decisions and solving problems.
- Communicate confidently and professionally.
- Be creative and willing to develop new event ideas.
- Be proactive and comfortable taking ownership.
- Be hands-on and willing to get involved when required.
- Be comfortable working selected evenings and weekends around key events.
- Be flexible in their approach to working hours.
Candidates with experience in hospitality, hotels, leisure, sports venues, events businesses, conference facilities or other customer-facing operational environments are also encouraged to apply.
What We Offer:
- Full-time, permanent employment.
- Average 40-hour working week.
- Flexible working around the events calendar.
- Time off in lieu for additional evening and weekend hours.
- A varied and hands-on role.
- Genuine responsibility and autonomy.
- Opportunity to develop and introduce new events.
- Opportunity to contribute to commercial growth and revenue.
- Support from an established team.
- Opportunity to play a key role within a busy local organisation.
How to Apply:
If you have experience within events, hospitality, venue management or operations and are looking for a varied role offering genuine responsibility, flexibility and the opportunity to make an impact, we’d like to hear from you.
